Born in Mayagüez, Puerto Rico and raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Kai is a 5th generation artist. In 2007 she graduated from the University of New Mexico where her piece entitled "Performance Art as Resistance To Violence Against the Other" was published. Her work has been shown in both local and national galleries in New Mexico and New York. In 2008 she studied the Mexican art of papel picado with master Catalina Delgado-Trunk http://calaca-arts.com. Kai's artwork fuses pop-culture, political subject matter, and a passion for mixed media. She often uses photographs of her grandmother and great-grandmother, taken by her great-great-grandmother to give a voice to her ancestors, thereby establishing unique, inter-generational, artistic collaborations with her progenitors. Kai now lives in New York City and continues to examine the intersections between Chicano, Caribbean-- and Urban--culture.
